Atlantis: the Altiplano, Bolivia versus Santorini/Crete,
south of Spain and the Eye of the Sahara
When filming documentaries on Atlantis, it is very popular to talk of Santorini/Crete or the south of Spain
or even the Eye of the Sahara as the site of Atlantis. But none of these sites corresponds to
what Plato actually said. To begin with, none of them is in the Atlantic Ocean,
and the real site which is on an island in the Atlantic Ocean never gets mentioned.
We can make a study of these sites to see how they compare.
1. Atlantis (the Atlantic Island) was an island in the Atlantic Ocean, in front of or opposite the Pillars of Hercules.
1. The "Atlantic Island", i.e., America is in the Atlantic Ocean,
opposite the Pilares of Hercules today called the Sttrait of Gibraltar.
1. Neither Crete, nor south of Spain, nor the Eye of the Sahara are islands in the Atlantic Ocean.
Altiplano 1, Crete 0, Spain 0, Eye of the Sahara 0.
2. Plato said that Atlantis was larger than Libya and Asia (Near East) together.
2. The "Atlantic Island" i.e. America is larger than Libya and Asia (Near East) together.
2. Crete is a small island, approximately 180 miles long, Spain equally is not comparable in size to Libya and Asia together, whilst the Eye of the Sahara is part of Africa, it would not make sense to say Africa is larger than Africa and Asia together.
Altiplano 2, Crete 0, Spain 0, Eye of the Sahara 0.
3. In the centre of the longest coastline of the large island, there was a rectangular plain enclosed by mountains.
3. The Altiplano in Bolivia is in the centre of the whole island
midway along the longest coastline, by the side of the sea and enclosed by mountains.
The Altiplano in Bolivia is in the centre of the whole island
midway along the longest coastline, by the side of the sea and enclosed by mountains.
The Altiplano in Bolivia is in the centre of the whole island

3. There is no rectangular plain on Crete, neither in the south of Spain, or at the Eye of the Sahara.
Altiplano 3, Crete 0, Spain 0, Eye of the Sahara 0.
4. The plain was of rectangular shape, "rectilinear for the most part and elongated" - "Originally it was a long narrow rectangle."
4. The Altiplano by the side of Lake Poopo has a rectangular shape.
4. If you read the contours for the island of Crete, you can see the small plain is not of rectangular shape, nor could you define it as "enclosed by mountains".
Neither does a rectangular plain exist in the south of Spain or at Eye of the Sahara.
Altiplano 4, Crete 0, Spain 0, Eye of the Sahara 0.
5. The rectangular plain was located high above sea level, it was enclosed by mountains which reached a great height and had a smooth and level surface.
5. The Bolivian Altiplano has a smooth and level surface, is high above sea level, is enclosed by high mountains and of rectangular shape.
5. There is no similar rectangular plain on Crete, neither in south of Spain or Eye of the Sahara.
Altiplano 5, Crete 0, Spain 0, Eye of the Sahara 0.
6. In the centre of the plain, at a distance of 50 "stades" from the sea, there was a mountain "low on all sides."
6. In the centre of the rectangular Altiplano, at a distance of 50 stades from the sea, (LakePoopo), we find the remains of the mountain
In the centre of the rectangular Altiplano, at a distance of 50 stades from the sea, (LakePoopo), we find the remains of the mountain "low on all sides".
6. In Santorini, there is no plain and it is not 50 stades from the sea. In south of Spain there is no mountain and the Eye of the Sahara is not a mountain.
Altiplano 6, Crete 0, Spain 0, Eye of the Sahara 0.
7. In a time before there were ships and navegation, the god had created
concentric rings of land and water around the mountain, to make it inaccesible to men.
7. Concept of the ringed island as desribed by Plato
In the centre of the rectangular Altiplano, at a distance of 50 stades from the sea, (Lake Poopo), we find the remains of the mountain with the concentric rings.
7. In Santorini, there is no evidence of concentric rings. In south of Spain, there is no mountain with concemtric rings. The Eye of the Sahara has concentric rings, but that is its only correspondencee to Plato´s story.
Altiplano 7, Crete 0, Spain 0, Eye of the Sahara 1.
8. The central complex of Atlantis consisted of a mountain or small hill 5 stades in diameter surrounded by concentric rings, one of water 1 stade wide followed by one of land and one of water each 2 stades wide, followwed by one of land and one of water 3 stades wide making a total of 27 stades wide for the central complex.
8. Concept of the island and city with its concentric rings as described by Plato.
Remains of concentric rings at Pampa Aullagas.
8. In Santorini, there is no evidence of concentric rings. In the south of Spain there is no mountain or rings either.
The Eye of the Sahara has a diameter of 40 Km and the complex of 27 stades would only occupy a very small part in the centre.
It is completely false to say that the dimensions given by Plato fit perfectly here.
Altiplano 8, Crete 0, Spain 0, Eye of the Sahara 1.
9. Atlantis was destroyed by earthquakes and floods and disappeared into the sea.
The mountain in Pampa Aullagas was destroyed by earthquakes.
9. At Pampa Aullagas the mountain has been destroyed by earthquakes and floods. The southern part is missing and the whole site has been submerged by the ancient sea. (Lake Tauca)
The Altiplano covered by Lake Tauca
9. In Santorini, the original island (Thera) was destroyed by volcanic eruption. The south of Spain was not destroyed by earthquakes and floods, neither was the Eye of the Sahara
Altiplano 9, Santorini 1, Spain 0, Eye of the Sahara 1.
10. In Atlantis there was a metal called "orichalcum" whch was the
second most valuable metal after gold and "sparkled like red fire".
In the Andes there exists a natural alloy of gold and copper which the Conquistadors called "Tumbaga" and which has the appearance of gold.
This is the orichalcum of Plato and in the Quechua language "cori" means "gold.
10. In Crete, gold had to be imported, there was no orichalcum, likewise it did not exist in south of Spain or Eye of the Sahara.
Altiplano 10, Santorini 1, Spain 0, Eye of the Sahara 1.
11. In Atlantis the first inhabitants were born as five pairs of twin sons.
11. Accordiing to legend, in the Andes, after a great flood which overturned the earth, were born five pairs of twin sons.
11. In Crete, nothing of twins, likewise in the south of Spain or Eye of the Sahara.
Altiplano 11, Santorini 1, Spain 0, Eye of the Sahara 1.
12. Atl Antis is a name of "American" origin, "America" ia a name of European origin.
12. In the native languages, "Atl" means "Water" and "Antis" means "Copper", or "Andes".
A quarter of the Inca empire ws called "Antisuyo" - Kingdom of the Antis.
12. Neither the names Santorini, Thera, or Crete have anything to do with the name "Atlantis", neither has south of Spain or Eye of the Sahara.
The Atlas mountains in northwest Africa were so named by the Romans, long after Plato.
Altiplano 12, Santorini 1, Spain 0, Eye of the Sahara 1.
Altiplano 100%, Santorini 08.33%, Spain 0, Eye of the Sahara 08.33%.
We can see that if we analyse all the statements in a logical manner, all the evidence points to South America and the Altiplano as the origin and basis for Plato´s Atlantis while Santorini/Crete, south of Spain or Eye of the Sahara have no correspondence to Plato´s statements and are vistually the opposite of what Plato actually said.
